WHAT IS PAGE 13?
Key Items Missing in Feinstein's Gun Bill...

by Alan Korwin

The problem on page 13: All semi-autos are outlawed, not just some.

Pro-rights and anti-rights attention has been focused on the tremendous list of guns that would be banned under Feinstein's bill, which takes up a significant portion of the 122 pages of this proposal.
Here's the problem none of the "news" reports have spotted:
  1. The list of guns doesn't matter.
  2. Magazine size doesn't matter.
  3. If the semi-auto firearm has anything to grip it by, it is banned.
  4. It's very clever actually.
According to the bill, any semiautomatic firearm that uses a magazine -- handgun, rifle or shotgun -- equipped with a "pistol grip," would be banned. That sounds like a limitation, but it is not.

A pistol grip (on page 2) is defined (on page 13) as "a grip, a thumb-hole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip." In other words, the gun list does not matter. It is a smokescreen designed to distract people from the true meaning of the bill. And it has done a magnificent job. It worked!

Any semi-automatic firearm that exists, with anything on it you can grip, is banned. (There is a grandfather clause for old stuff.)

The list is meaningless tripe. It is camouflage for the real purpose of the bill. When the president said he is not going to take away your guns, well, Feinstein's bill puts the lie to that.

Magazine size does not matter. Brand name does not matter. It doesn't matter if it's black. If you can grip it, it's banned under this bill.

Have a nice day.

Jimmy Lee Dykes; the crazed Vietnam vet in Alabama....NOT?

Source: This Ain't Hell

The media couldn’t stop themselves from telling us that Jimmy Lee Dykes, the guy in the standoff with police down there in Alabama, near rural Midland is a Vietnam veteran. The Southern Poverty Law Center rushed out the news on their Hate Watch blog;
The gunman is identified as Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, a Vietnam veteran. On Tuesday afternoon, Dykes allegedly stormed into a school bus in Midland City, Ala., shooting the bus driver four times with a 9 mm pistol before taking a child to an underground bunker behind his home. The bus driver, identified as 66-year-old Charles Poland Jr., later died.
Some media sources, like Fox News were more cautious in their reporting. Well, I got suspicious and asked Mary to check her database of Vietnam veterans. Her database contains even Vietnam Era veterans who never went to Vietnam and there’s no record of Dykes, so that may be the reason that some sources are downplaying that aspect recently. of course, it will take weeks to get anything back from the National Personnel Records Center and be absolutely sure, but at this point, it looks like the media jumped on this on the word of some neighbors or someone who heard it from Dykes – it’s not like we haven’t seen this type of reportage before like Gary Raub, the homeless gnome (here and here) who everyone just believed that he was a veteran because he said so.

Now, Mary’s database might be wrong, but I’ve never had it be wrong before, so…. (TSP ADDED EMPHASIS)

How Did This Tiny American Flag Land a Military Veteran in Trouble?

Tyler Barge describes himself as a proud military veteran. He was deployed to Afghanistan for nine months in 2011 where he served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He just returned home in March of 2012.

So, you can imagine his disgust when management at his apartment complex ordered him to remove the small American flag he had stuck into a pot of dirt on his patio.

Apartment Complex Orders Military Veteran Tyler Barge to Remove Small American Flag

“I like to keep a flag on display in honor of those who have died fighting for our freedom,” Barge, 22, told TheBlaze in an exclusive interview on Thursday. “I had the privilege of coming home and they didn’t. I try to do what I can to keep their memory alive.”

“I saw the flag flying in Afghanistan, it’d be nice to see it flying here too,” he added.
Barge said he received a notice from Riverwalk Apartments in Salem, Va. on Wednesday ordering him to remove the American flag, trash items, a broom and even a glass table from the patio.

“We need your help to keep our community one of the best in Salem! We need for you to remove the following items from your patio,” the notice read. It then listed the previously mentioned items. The notice went on:
Per our lease agreement we only allow the following times on your patio/balcony:
1. Patio furniture
2. Up to (3) working bicycles
3. Plants
The complex is giving Barge until Monday to remove the flag and other items.

As a veteran, Barge said he wanted to honor the flag, even if in a small way. He says he was well aware his lease prohibited him from hanging an American flag, so he opted to put out a small version of the flag in a pot of dirt instead. But the apartment complex is saying even that is unacceptable.

“Being a veteran and growing up with good patriotic parents, I’ve always had a flag out,” Barge told TheBlaze. “I didn’t think anything of it.”

Barge says he has served in the National Guard for nearly five years as an infantryman and is currently an E4 Specialist. He and 41 other soldiers from Virginia were deployed in June of 2011 to Uruzgan province in southern Afghanistan to provide security for a multinational provincial reconstruction team.

Given the fact that the complex has only given him until Monday to comply, Barge said his wife has been trying to get in touch with the property manager to work something out so they can leave the flag on the patio. However, the property manager, identified as Tristan Byrely by the apartment complex, was “unavailable” on Wednesday and again on Thursday.

Byrely was also unavailable when TheBlaze called the Riverwalk Apartments on Thursday.

Ski masks, a fashion accessory to crime in D.C., may soon be illegal

Buying a ski mask isn’t illegal, but could restricting their sale help prevent crime?

The notion is stirring debate among some Northwest Washington residents after reports of robberies committed by men wearing ski masks. The frequency of the robberies also has caught attention of police, who say one neighborhood crew is frequently purchasing masks at a local sports store for the express purpose of committing robberies.

“They clearly are a problem. Otherwise, we wouldn’t see it being mentioned in all the reports,” said Faith Wheeler, an Advisory Neighborhood Commission member from the Takoma neighborhood in Northwest.

And while police from the Metropolitan Police Department’s 4th District said they think the Rittenhouse Crew — many of whose members are known to police officers — is responsible for some of the robberies, the ski masks are a huge stumbling block if victims are to be unable to identify their assailants.

On a Metropolitan Police Department-run listserv, Ms. Wheeler was one of several people who broached the subject of trying to discourage the sale of ski masks in the neighborhood, or asked legislators whether there are other ways to ban their sale.

“I don’t know how you can get at it legislatively,” said Ms. Wheeler, acknowledging she meant to open the door to discussion rather than suggest her own cure-alls. “I don’t know that persuasion itself would work unless you have a personal relationship with a store owner.”

D.C. law already ban individuals — ages 16 and up — from wearing masks in public under certain circumstances, such as while committing a crime or with “the intent to intimidate, threaten, abuse or harass any other person.” But prosecution under the law appears infrequent. The Office of the Attorney General, which handles juvenile and misdemeanor cases in the District, was aware of only two cases in which juveniles faced charges under the law, spokesman Ted Gest said.

“It is typically not a stand-alone offense,” he said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office was unable to provide data immediately on the number of times charges have been brought under the law.

At a Ward 4 Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting Monday night at the 4th District police headquarters, officers cautioned residents that a sports store along Georgia Avenue seems to be the new place criminals are going to buy one-time-use ski masks for the sole purpose of robberies.

“Guys are going in there, buying their mask, doing a robbery and then walking away,” Officer Jonathan White said.

Though hardly unique to the 4th District, a cursory review of robbery-suspect descriptions provided by police shows a number of robberies or other crimes in which a ski mask is part of a vague suspect description. During a robbery on Jan. 23 at 13th and Varnum streets Northeast, police said two black men wearing ski masks got out of a gold Honda Accord and held a woman at gunpoint to steal her purse.

On the afternoon of Jan. 10, two black men, one armed with a silver handgun and wearing a ski mask, held up a man at gunpoint and stole his money and cellphone in the 5900 block of 5th Street Northwest.

“It’s a traumatic experience,” said Ms. Wheeler, who was nearly carjacked by a man wearing a ski mask last year.

But where some were supportive of cracking down on ski masks, others saw scapegoats and irrational fears.
“And the next thing you know, the irrational thinkers will be talking about getting rid of scarves. A long scarf can make a good mask. Hmm. What’s next after that?” one woman wrote on the police listserv in response to the ski mask discussion.

Employees of City Gear, a Georgia Avenue sports apparel store, highlighted the necessity for a ski mask in cold weather.

“I started wearing them for football,” said Michael Carr, 22. “The police wear them, too. People are just trying to make a big deal out of anything.”

Athletic shoes, knit caps, and running shoes all lined the walls of the Brightwood neighborhood store — but no ski masks, he pointed out.

Robberies are “happening every day,” Mr. Carr said. “You really think you’re going to be able to stop that?”

That mass killer? He’s probably not a vet

Source: This Ain't Hell

Spencer Ackerman at the Danger Room writes about a New Jersey branch of the Homeland Security Department study which discovered what we’ve all known – they could have paid me the money they spent and I could have told them – it ain’t veterans;

This is what a mass killer looks like, according to a Department of Homeland Security analysis. He works alone. He uses a semi-automatic handgun. He’s a he. And he probably didn’t serve in the U.S. military.

Thirteen out of the 29 observed cases “occurred at the workplace and were conducted by either a former employee or relative of an employee,” the November report finds. His “weapon of choice” is a semiautomatic handgun, rather than the rifles that garnered so much attention after Newtown. The infamous Columbine school slaying of 1999 is the only case in which killers worked in teams: they’re almost always solo acts — and one-off affairs. In every single one of them, the killer was male, between the age of 17 and 49.

They also don’t have military training. Veterans are justifiably angered by the Hollywood-driven meme of the unhinged vet who takes out his battlefield stress on his fellow Americans. (Thanks, Rambo.) In only four of the 29 cases did the shooter have any affiliation with the U.S. military, either active or prior at the time of the slaying, and the fusion center doesn’t mention any wartime experience of the killers. Yet the Army still feels the need to email reporters after each shooting to explain that the killer never served.

But, the media can’t help itself – being in the military, well, that explains it all and justifies their hatred and mistrust of folks who carry loaded weapons for a living. And then, there are phonies out there who tell wild-ass stories about their fake experiences in combat. And if the troops would pee on the corpses of their victims, what else do they do?

Then, you’ve got dinguses in the IVAW who tell about the time they played soccer with the disembodied heads of insurgents for fun. And the Joseph Cryers of the world who are secret squirrel killers in wars no one ever heard of.

Like that guy who is holding a child hostage in Arkansas Alabama today, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes; SPLC couldn’t wait to announce on their “Hate Watch” blog that he’s a Vietnam veteran and “anti-government”. In my opinion, there can’t be too many “pro-government” people left in the country looking at all of it’s recent failures, but gotta perpetuate the crazed vet meme. Because it explains to all of the people who have never spent a day in uniform how such a thing could happen. Because vets are all crazy.

But I don’t see Homeland Security making a big deal out of this report like the one they did a few years ago when they were warning police departments about us with no real evidence.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Provides Free Firearms Class for 300 Teachers

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO)

Windsor, CO – Tonight, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, Colorado's largest grassroots gun rights organization, provided a free firearms training course for 300 teachers.

The 300 men and women braved snow and inclement weather to attend the four hour course focusing on firearms safety and handling, and Colorado gun laws.

“Colorado teachers have been beating down our doors to receive firearms training,” said Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Executive Director Dudley Brown. “They don't want their students to be a victim of the next Adam Lanza. They came here for training tonight because they want the next Adam Lanza to face the barrel of a .45.”

Tonight's class coincided with the introduction of Colorado Senate Bill 9, the Colorado Teacher Carry Bill, which would give school boards the ability to allow teachers to carry a firearm as long as they have a Concealed Weapons Permit.

Franklin County, Indiana Passes 2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance

HT: 90 Miles From Tyranny

While a number of states are currently considering legislation to nullify federal gun laws, rules, acts, orders and regulations, and various sheriffs around the country are issuing notice that they will not enforce any such federal laws, a new grassroots undercurrent could be building to support those efforts: local governments nullifying unconstitutional federal acts that violate the 2nd Amendment.

Last week, Beaufort County, North Carolina became the first in the country to do so. On Tuesday, Franklin County, Indiana joined them by passing a 2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance. It passed unanimously, and County Commissioner Scott M. McDonough says they mean business.

“The citizens of Franklin County take the Constitution seriously and the State and Federal government need to do so as well,” he said.

The ordinance itself is an extremely strong stand in support of the 2nd Amendment. It reads, in part:

All federal acts, laws, orders, rules or regulations regarding firearms are a violation of the 2nd Amendment

The ordinance continues:

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners declares that all federal acts, laws, orders, rules, regulations – past, present or future – in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States are not authorized by the Constitution of the United States and violate its true meaning and intent as given by the Founders and Ratifiers; and are hereby declared to be invalid in this county, shall not be recognized by this county, are specifically rejected by this county, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in this county.

Recognizing that federal acts almost always require support, logistics and the like from state or local governments, the final portion of the bill is what would give it the most effect in helping protect the rights of the people living there:

It shall be the duty of the Sheriff of this County to take all measures as may be necessary to prevent the enforcement of any federal acts, laws, orders, rules, or regulations in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

The first step that a sheriff should take? Refuse to comply with unconstitutional federal acts.

2nd Amendment and the Kool-Aid Drinkers

VIA: Free North Carolina
Source: Wilson Combat

I have quietly watched and evaluated the in pouring of e-mails reference the liberal’s intent to seize guns and crush the second amendment. I want to add a few of my own thoughts on this issue as I have worked in and around all the people who could be tasked to seize your guns.

WHO’S COMING TO GET THEM?

United Nations (UN)
We are the UN. Other countries mostly join the U.N. to secure money, funding and training and few have any offensive combat capability. Most serve as guards at static locations and have no will to fight. America is the enforcement arm of the U.N. We have the money, equipment, personnel and lift platforms to get the job done.

If the president ever let the U.N. in this country, it would be a foreign invasion and armed Americans would stand up and crush them in a day. Our government would break down and the president would be ousted for letting foreign militaries invade our country.

Federal Government Military
Having served over 20 years in our military, I know that most soldiers would refuse the order to take part in the confiscation of weapons. First, the president would have to give the order, which is an “Illegal Order” in violation of the constitution. I don’t believe that service members would go back into the communities that raised them and conduct raids on good Americans in violation of the constitution.

Remember, these forces would have to come from a military base that is surrounded and supported by American communities. Civilians would simply cease to support the bases and they would fold in a short time. Cut of the fuel, food, electricity on bases and this would stop the silliness. Also, many, many service members live in the communities and they would have to travel from their houses to base unless they were locked down. In that case, their families would still be in the community and people would not be too friendly to those supporting these actions.

Federal Government DHS or TSA
The Federal government is not large enough or talented enough to seize guns. If they were to do 5-8 raids a day seizing guns, they would be physically and mentally exhausted and need a break. Physically conducting raids is exhausting. After the first few raids, the word would get out and Americans would start to fight back. It would take one good ambush from a house or along a travel route to decimate a tactical force or make it combat ineffective

Next, most Federal Agencies work out of a fixed location centrally located in a community. Also, their personnel live in those communities along with their families. Once the word got out that they were doing raids in violation to the constitution, they and their families would be at risk. If they were to start raiding houses, kicking in doors and breaking in windows looking for legally owned guns, their homes would be subject to the same treatment by Americans rising up to defend themselves. They would shortly find themselves without a place to live.

State Law Enforcement
The Governor would have to order State and Local Law Enforcement to either:
  • Seize guns
  • Ignore the Federal Orders
If they ignore the Federal Orders, things would be tense, but people would be civil. If they started to seize guns, they only have limited people and assets to do this. Much the same consequences would take place as with the Federal Government.

Local Law Enforcement
Local Police and Sheriff Departments are the backbone of who protects American Citizens. A Sheriff or Chief of Police would have to give the order for his people to begin to seize weapons. Their people would either comply or see it as an illegal order and refuse.

Remember, Chiefs and Sheriff’s also have to live and work in the same communities they serve. As I described with the Federal Government, local Tactical Teams could probably only do 8-10 hits in a day and then need a break. So they hit ten houses and seize their guns, the word would get out and now they are subject to living in the same community as those they are attacking. It would not go well. Also, after one or two determined Americans or combat vets fought back, the team would lose many to death or injury and they would have made a decision whether to continue to push the fight. Remember also, they have to sleep sometime. Their homes and families would be at risk. It is an ugly scenario at best.

Nation of Combat Veterans and Patriots
Having been at war for over 10 years, we have a nation of combat vets and contractors that have seen more action than many of our WWII vets. It has been said that only a small percentage of Americans stood up to the British War machine in the Revolutionary War. Americans are better armed and trained today than at any time in our nation’s history. Think about what would happen if just our nation’s veterans stood up. People have been buying more guns and ammunition in the past five years than any time in my life. The guns and ammunition are out there along with the talent to use them.

Kool-Aid Drinkers
Kool-Aid Drinkers is the term I use to describe the Jonestown voluntarily massacre where the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, a dedicated community western Guyana by the Peoples Temple led by cult leader Jim Jones intentionally drank poison Kool-Aid. Over 900 people died.

In every law enforcement, government and military agency or branch, there are a small number of Kool-Aid drinkers who would blindly follow orders. They would either be purged internally by their co-workers or people they attacked would stop their gene pool.

Also, at the police tactical team level, all members “volunteer” for the job and they can have the individual integrity to terminate their team service at any time if their profession becomes corrupt or misguided. I know many a good officer that has done that in the past.

Finally, there would be a certain number of American Kool-Aid drinkers that would turn in their weapons if asked. I believe it would be a small percentage as there are always those that do not have the will to resist or fight and they are not needed should thing get tough.

History of “Gun-Free Zones”
Our nation’s history is filled with examples of “gun-free” zones failed.
The Aurora Colorado movie massacre and the recent Connecticut shooting are two that come to mind. Also, remember the Fort Hood massacre where an Islamic extremist Major Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 soldiers because our military bases are gun free zones. Combat trained soldiers had to be rescued by a security guard. That is embarrassing.

Evil came to all of these places and everyone was disarmed and not ready to fight back because they were gun free zones.

Think what would happen at a national level if the American people were disarmed. Another evil would come along either from inside our country or outside of it and resulting in our downfall.

How about others in recent history:
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

Solutions
Write your state representatives and let them know how you feel about this issue. I would like to think that most states would refuse the order.

Next, at the local level, talk to your Sheriff or Chief of Police and ask them if they would allow or support the federal government in their confiscation of firearms. Put them on the spot now and hold them accountable. I like to think that most states would refuse the order.

Should firearm confiscation begin, solutions are simple. If they cannot live in a community, they cannot work in a community. If their house goes away while they are at work confiscating guns, so be it. Allow them to leave with their family and what possessions they can pack in their car. Point them to California and let them know all the Hollywood types would be happy to financially support them in the fantasy land they wish to live in and that they are not welcome in Free America.

In the end I believe that guns are the glue that hold our country together. Guns keep the government in check and the individual American safe and free. Remove guns and the government will no longer be controlled by the people. The government will control the people.

Finally, it is claimed that the Battles of Lexington and Concord, in 1775 were started because General Gage attempted to carry out an order by the British government to disarm the population resulting in the “Shot heard round the world.”

Catholic Church opposes firearms for civilians

Gun control: Church firmly, quietly opposes firearms for civilians
By Carol Glatz Catholic News Service

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The Catholic Church's position on gun control is not easy to find; there are dozens of speeches and talks and a few documents that call for much tighter regulation of the global arms trade, but what about private gun ownership?

The answer is resoundingly clear: Firearms in the hands of civilians should be strictly limited and eventually completely eliminated.

But you won't find that statement in a headline or a document subheading. It's almost hidden in a footnote in a document on crime by the U.S. bishops' conference and it's mentioned in passing in dozens of official Vatican texts on the global arms trade.

The most direct statement comes in the bishops' "Responsibility, Rehabilitation and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Crime and Criminal Justice" from November 2000.

"As bishops, we support measures that control the sale and use of firearms and make them safer -- especially efforts that prevent their unsupervised use by children or anyone other than the owner -- and we reiterate our call for sensible regulation of handguns."

That's followed by a footnote that states: "However, we believe that in the long run and with few exceptions -- i.e. police officers, military use -- handguns should be eliminated from our society."

That in turn reiterates a line in the bishops' 1990 pastoral statement on substance abuse, which called "for effective and courageous action to control handguns, leading to their eventual elimination from our society."

On the world stage, the Vatican has been pushing for decades for limitations not just on conventional weapons of warfare, such as tanks and missiles, but also for stricter limitations on the illegal and legal sale, trade and use of small firearms and weapons, said Tommaso Di Ruzza, the expert on disarmament and arms control at the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

Di Ruzza told
Catholic News Service that the Vatican is one of just a handful of states that would like to see small arms and weapons included in the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, which would better regulate the flow of conventional arms.

He said while many countries are open to limits on larger weapons systems, most nations aren't interested in regulating small arms even though they "cause more deaths than all other arms (conventional and non-conventional) together."

The Vatican's justice and peace council is working to update its 1994 document, "The International Arms Trade," to further emphasize the importance of enacting concrete controls on handguns and light weapons, he said.

The current document calls on every nation and state "to impose a strict control on the sale of handguns and small arms. Limiting the purchase of such arms would certainly not infringe on the rights of anyone."

The more weapons there are in circulation, the more likely terrorists and criminals will get their hands on them, the document said.

The Catholic Church recognizes that "states will need to be armed for reason of legitimate defense," as Pope Benedict XVI said in a message to a Vatican-sponsored disarmament conference in April 2008.

However, armed defense is something appropriate for nations, not for all individual citizens in a state where rule of law is effective, said Di Ruzza.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, individuals have a right and a duty to protect their own lives when in danger, and someone who "defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow."

How that "lethal blow" could be licitly wielded is unclear, but the catechism clarifies that repelling the aggressor must be done "with moderation" in order to be "lawful" in the eyes of the church; using "more than necessary violence" would be unlawful, it says.

According to the catechism, the right to use firearms to "repel aggressors" or render them harmless is specifically sanctioned for "those who legitimately hold authority" and have been given the duty of protecting the community.

Di Ruzza said that in "a democracy, where there is respect for institutions (of law), the citizen relinquishes his right to revenge onto the state," which, through its law enforcement and courts system, aims to mete out a fair and just punishment.

"There is a sort of natural right to defend the common interest and the common good, and in 1791 (when the United States passed the Second Amendment), my right to have a weapon served the common good because there wasn't an army; the democratic institutions were young and a little fragile, and I could have been useful in a time of war as a soldier," said Di Ruzza.

But once a nation has a functioning army, police force and court system, "do I still serve the common good with my gun or do I put it at even greater danger?" and promote a lawless kind of "street justice where if you steal my car, I shoot you," he asked.

The Vatican's justice and peace council's 1994 document said, "In a world marked by evil and sin, the right of legitimate defense by armed means exists," but, Di Ruzza said, it wasn't lauding the potential of weaponry as much as it was lamenting the existence of arms in an imperfect world.

Nations have a duty, the document said, to reduce if not eliminate the causes of violence.

And as Pope Benedict wrote in his message to the disarmament conference, no reduction or elimination of arms can happen without eliminating violence at its root.

Every person "is called to disarm his own heart and be a peacemaker everywhere," the pope said.

A Vatican spokesman's misguided statement on gun control

Let’s make something clear right away. Pope Benedict has not endorsed the Obama administration’s gun-control plans. The Pope has said nothing on the subject. But Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office—has released a statement on gun control, in his weekly editorial commentary for Vatican Radio. Inevitably his editorial will be portrayed by careless reporters as an official statement of the Vatican’s position. It is not; Father Lombardi does not set policy for the Vatican, or make authoritative statements for the Catholic Church.

Nor does the Catholic Church make authoritative statements about partisan political matters—especially partisan political matters in a country far from Rome, a country whose political affairs Vatican officials do not understand.

”The initiatives announced by the United States government in view of limiting and controlling the diffusion and use of arms are certainly a step in the right direction,” Father Lombardi pronounced as he began his commentary. Obviously he was referring to the executive orders issued by President Obama (who, by the way, is not “the United States government”) last week. The wording of the editorial is vague; we don’t know which initiatives in particular met with Father Lombardi’s approval. We don’t know, actually, whether the Vatican spokesman is actually acquainted with the specifics of the White House plans. In short—let’s not mince words—we don’t know whether Father Lombardi knows what he’s talking about.

Obama to Cut Healthcare Benefits for Active Duty and Retired US Military

TRASHING TRICARE

BY: Bill Gertz
February 27, 2012 3:36 pm

The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.

The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.

The proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, are part of the Pentagon’s $487 billion cut in spending. It seeks to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget, and $12.9 billion by 2017.

Many in Congress are opposing the proposed changes, which would require the passage of new legislation before being put in place.

“We shouldn’t ask our military to pay our bills when we aren’t willing to impose a similar hardship on the rest of the population,” Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and a Republican from California, said in a statement to the Washington Free Beacon. “We can’t keep asking those who have given so much to give that much more.”

Administration officials told Congress that one goal of the increased fees is to force military retirees to reduce their involvement in Tricare and eventually opt out of the program in favor of alternatives established by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.

I don't know what I like more; getting screwed by the government, or having the unionized civilian government workers kicking back watching while me & my buddies get screwed . . .

NBC Political Director Says Rural/Urban Divide “Stark”

Source: Rural Health Voices

by Maggie Elehwany on January 14, 2013

NBC political director and chief White House correspondent, Chuck Todd, today declared the “Rural-Urban political divide is as stark as it has ever been.”

In speaking on a Washington, D.C. news radio station this morning, Todd said today’s divided nation is no longer “red state verses blue state, it’s rural verses urban.” He went on to say that many of the politically divisive issues such as gun control and abortion stem from rural and urban differences that are “cultural.”

Is he right? In the 2008 Presidential election, much of rural America was “purple.” In 2012, the color was definitely more red. We hope to hear more of this interesting discussion during the 24th annual Rural Health Policy Institute, the largest rural advocacy event in the nation, where Chuck Todd has been invited to speak.

For more details on the Policy Institute http://www.ruralhealthweb.org/pi . You can listen to Chuck Todd’s full interview at http://www.wtop.com/774/3191975/Vice-President-Joe-Biden-will-soon-make-gun-control-recommendations-to-the-president.

‘I Need You in the Game’: Wis. Sheriff Tells Residents to Learn How to Use a Gun to Defend Themselves

I Need You in the Game: Wis. Sheriff Tells Residents to Learn How to Use a Gun to Defend Themselves
In this Oct. 11, 2012 file photo, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke talks during a budget hearing in Milwaukee, Wis. The Wisconsin sheriff said he released an ad calling on residents to defend themselves because the old model of having a citizen call 911 and wait for help isn’t always the best option. (AP)

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. has a message for residents: learn how to use a gun.

With budget cutbacks putting a strain on law enforcement, simply calling 911 might not cut it in a life-or-death or situation, Clarke said in a new radio ad this month. Safety is “no longer a spectator sport,” he says. “I need you in the game.”

“With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option,” Clark adds. “You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”

“Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now. Can I count on you?” he asks.

The spot has quickly earned criticism, including from the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs’ Association president Roy Felber told the Associated Press it sounds like a call to vigilantism, while Barrett’s spokeswoman said it sounded like Clarke was “auditioning for the next Dirty Harry movie.”

But Clarke told the AP he simply wants people to know what their options are in protecting themselves.

“I’m not telling you to `Hey, pick up a gun and blast away,’” he said. “People need to know what they are doing if they chose that method – to defend themselves.”

He said self-defense may not be for everyone, but that people who want to know how should be trained properly. After budget cuts forced him to lay off 48 deputies last year, he realized he had an “untapped reserve” — the public.

“People are responsible to play a role in their own safety, with the help of law enforcement,” Clarke said. “I’m here to do my part, but we have fewer and fewer resources. We’re not omnipresent, and we have to stop giving people that impression.”

James Fendry, director of the Wisconsin Pro Gun Movement, praised the ad, telling Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “It’s never been a great option (calling 911). Unless you can take care of yourself, you’re kind of SOL.”

TSP Comment: Way to go Sheriff Clarke! Don't candy coat it, speak the truth and trust the people.

Feinstein: ‘The Purpose is to Dry Up the Supply of These Weapons Over Time’

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) laid out the conditions of her proposed assault weapon ban Thursday, saying it would prohibit 158 specifically named military-style firearms.

“The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time,” Feinstein said. “Therefore, there is no sunset on this bill.”

Feinstein said the bill prohibits the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices that can accept more than ten rounds, but said it would not affect hunting or sporting firearms.

“Instead, the bill protects hunters and sportsmen by protecting 2,200 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes,” she said. “They are by make and model exempted from the legislation … Finally, the bill subjects existing or grandfathered weapons to a background check in the event the weapon is sold or transferred … We have tried to recognize legal hunting rights. We have tried to recognize legal defense rights. We have tried to recognize the right of a citizen to legally possess a weapon. No weapon is taken from anyone.”

Lawless extremists pledge their lives against Obama’s gun grab

Source: Bob Owens

Written By: Bob - Jan• 22•13

Of course, by “extremists” I mean senior law enforcement officers, and since there are so many standing up to tell the President and Congressional progressives where they can stick their fantasies of gun bans and confiscation, I guess I should further refine that down to the Utah Sheriff’s Association (USA).

Read the entire letter (PDF), and make sure you grasp the ramifications of the concluding paragraph.
We respect the Office of the President of the United States of America. But, make no mistake, as the duly-elected sheriffs of our respective counties, we will enforce the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Constitution. No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights — in particular Amendment II — has given them. We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.
The Utah Sheriff’s Association joins a growing patchwork of senior law enforcement agencies across the south and west who are officially telling the Obama Administration that they will refuse to enforce the unconstitutional threats to the Constitution, but may be the first to pledge they will “trade their lives.”

What they mean by that has been left deliberately ambiguous.

Tech Post - Breather Check Valves

The folks at NRHS were nice enough to grant me permission to use their tech library to post here for everyone to benefit from.

They do dyno tests and know their shit, plus they back up what they say about things with proof. That's the no bullshit kind of way business should be done. If you have a chance check out their site, you never know you might learn something or find some of the services they offer fit your needs.

Tell'em you seen it on The Shit Pile blog, or Stu sent you.

I don't get a discount or anything out of a referral other than maybe more access to new information to share with you guys.

With permission from and thanks to: NRHS Performance

Back when I was writing tech articles for Battle2win magazine, I did an article on these breather check valves you see advertised for HD motors. Sold under the names "Krank Vent" "Krank Vent Plus", "Power Vent", and various other names, they either promise or in some cases highly suggest that using them will add power to your motor.

I understand where they're coming from. An HD motor has a variable volume crankcase. Unlike most car motors, which have a piston going down for every piston going up, the volume of the HD crankcase changes due to the 45 degree common crankpin design. It stands to reason that check valve on the crankcase vent could cause a vacuum to get pulled on the upstroke of the pistons, potentially helping ring seal. Dry sump oil pumps that can pull a vacuum when used in conjunction with low tension oil rings are a well known technology in the circle track car racing world.

What I couldn't understand was how these things could bring anything to the party considering the bikes already have a check valve in line with the breathers (the umbrella valves). Unless of course those valves were defective. But then it seemed like the marketing around these check valves must be based on the notion that the valve you already have is defective? That didn't make much sense.

So anyway, I went off to dyno test these things and see if I could substantiate any of the claims, blatant or subtle as they might be. Spent hours messing with the Hayden and Spyke brand devices. Here's what I came up with:

Open is just that, vented to the atmosphere with no additional valves, other than the factory umbrella valves which were in place at all times.

"Kuryakyn" refers to the little Kuryakyn adapter I used to route the blow-by back into the carb.

"Spyke" and "Hayden" are the best pulls with these respective devices in place.
Just for kicks, I blocked the vents and did some pulls, "closed" is the best of those results.

As you can see, the only thing that really mattered was whether or not the blow-by was being recycled back into the engine. Recycling the blow-by, the way the factory does, costed a little power over a wide range. Other than that, the motor largely ignored what I was doing with the breathers, at least from a power point of view.

When this result was published in Battle2win, I got quite the reaction from ET products, makers of the Spyke device. A dialogue ensued and I tried to pin him down on my basic question, i.e. how does putting a check valve downstream from the factory check valve change a thing? But I never got a real answer. He did claim though that the Spyke device was effective at improving power, even though he never explained how.

Anyway, in the interest of fairness, and just because I really wanted to be sure of myself, I did a whole bunch more testing of the Spyke device in particular on other bikes. Here are the results of that testing.

Dyno's are not a 100% repeatable measurement tool, you instead get a range of results in any given configuration. So I'm showing the range rather than a specific result for each:

1999 Buell M2
Here are all the baseline pulls on my '99 M2, no breather check valve in place other than the factory umbrella valves, and vented to the atmosphere. The power varies from 84.3 to 85.4.
Here are all the pulls I did on the same bike, same day, with the Spyke device in place. The power varies from 83.5 up to 84.8.
Blue: With Spyke Device
Red: Without Spyke device

And of course, this the best pull from each configuration, overlaid onto the same chart. Yeah, I know, it *looks* like the bike ran a tad better without the device, but it didn't, this is normal variation. I guarantee you if I did enough pulls with the device, and played the heat soak just right, I could've equaled the other results. This is a tie.
1996 Buell S2
Here are all the baseline pulls on my '96 S2. The power varies from 85.9 up to 87.1
Here are all the pulls I did on the same bike, same day, with the Spyke device in place. The power varies from 84.7 up to 87.4.
Blue: With Spyke device
Red: Without Spyke device

This the best pull from each configuration, overlaid onto the same chart. Again, it's a dead heat.
1996 Buell S1
Here are all the baseline pulls on my '96 S1. The power varies from 92.6 up to 95.3.
Here are all the pulls I did on the same bike, same day, with the Spyke device in place. Pulls 38 and 43 are omitted, because the tach pickup screwed up and if I put those on the chart, I can't show rpm and torque. They were not as good as pull # 42. The power varies from 93.7 up to 95.1.
Blue: Without Spyke Device
Red: With Spyke device
(sorry for the color inversion vs. the other results)

This the best pull from each configuration, overlaid onto the same chart. Again, it's a dead heat. I didn't actually use the "best" baseline pull, this one has a tad less peak hp but a little nicer curve.
1990 HD FXRS
Here are all the baseline pulls on my '90 FXR. This is a little different animal from a Buell, in that it breathes off the lower end using a timed breather gear. There are only 3 "baseline" pulls because this was a tune-up, and I did all my tuning that day with the device in place. Only towards the end, when I had it all tuned up, did I remove the Spyke device for comparison purposes. As you can see, the power varies from 85.7 to 86.9.
Here are all the pulls I did on the same bike, same day, in the final tuning configuration, with the Spyke device in place. The power varies from 86.2 up to 86.6.
Blue: With Spyke Device
Red: Without Spyke device

This the best pull from each configuration, overlaid onto the same chart. Again, it's a dead heat.

Bottom line here, folks, I tried my damndest, I can't find power with these devices. I know that pisses some people off. All I have to say is "show me". Don't just show me a result, either, anyone can skew procedures or pick and choose among the full range of results to support what he's trying to say. Show me procedures and ranges of results.
